Ghost Tequila mourns the death of the beloved Margarita, age 86, who passed away on September 29th, 2024 from unnatural causes.
For the last couple of decades, the drink was America’s favorite. It was seen as a sign of great taste — something your cool friend might order. But in recent years, the once iconic Margarita fell victim to strange frozen drinks, sugary flavors and cheap neon-colored concoctions.
Honestly, no one really knows where the margarita originated. Likely born in Juarez, Mexico, this staple cocktail was first mixed up sometime during the 1930s or ‘40s. Most credit bartender Carlos “Danny” Herrera for the first pour. It’s also rumored that the drink was named for actress Rita Hayworth whose birth name was Margarita.
WE’LL NEVER FORGET THE IMPACT [THE MARGARITA] HAD ON OUR LIVES...
We’ll never forget the impact it left on our lives. It used to mean the start of summer, beach getaways and even inspired one of the greatest songs – and chain restaurants – ever created. Now, this classic bar staple is lifeless and past it’s prime
BUT WE TOAST TO A NEWER, SPICIER, CRAFT ITERATION
That’s why, with the heaviest of hearts, Ghost Tequila has decided to lay this cocktail to rest and breathe some life back into the drink with a new, spicier, craft iteration made with the perfect pinch of heat: The Ghost Perfectly Spicy Margarita.
Gone are the days of drinking a regular margarita during a drab Taco Tuesday. From now on, we’re living life to the fullest. With a Perfectly Spicy Margarita in hand, every moment can become a perfectly spicy memory.
Ghost Tequila will spend the month of October honoring the Margarita and its spicy successor in traditional Mexican Day of the Dead traditions, starting with a private ceremony that celebrates the life of the Margarita in Boston.
